Description | "State Sen. Steve Baddour, D-Methuen, announced today that he will not run for Marty Meehan’s congressional seat if the seven-term U.S. Rep. is tapped to be chancellor of UMass Lowell.
Baddour was considered a top contender for the coveted congressional seat. His exit creates a wide open race among a cadre of state legislators and local politicians who have been actively campaigning for weeks.
“Anyone can be a congressman, but I’m the only one who can be the father of my two daughters,'’ said Baddour, who announced he will not be running during an event in Methuen this morning.
Meehan is expected to be hired as UMass Lowell’s next chancellor during a meeting of the university’s board of trustees Wednesday."
