Description | Justin Trudeau will be challenged by a popular Montreal municipal councillor for the Liberal nomination in the federal riding of Papineau.
Mary Deros filed her nomination papers Tuesday to seek the Liberal nod in the Montreal riding where the eldest son of former prime minister Pierre Trudeau said he wants to launch his political career.
Deros said she decided to run in federal politics after she spoke with Pierre Pettigrew at last November's Liberal leadership convention, where he told her he wasn't returning to politics. Pettigrew represented Papineau riding for many years until he was defeated in the last federal election by Bloc Québécois MP Vivian Barbot.
Deros is a city councillor for the municipal district of Park Extension, an ethnically diverse and largely working-class neighbourhood that is part of the federal Papineau riding and north of the Plateau Mont-Royal and Outremont. |
