Description | Pittsburgh Tribune-Review article.
An excerpt...
"Allegheny County Chief Executive Dan Onorato could have an easy time getting re-elected this year, analysts say.
The North Side Democrat likely won't have serious opposition in the spring primary, and time is growing short for Republicans to recruit a credible challenger for the November election, they say.
"It would take an awfully strong Republican and someone with tremendous name identification and background to unseat him," said Jerry Shuster, a political communications professor at the University of Pittsburgh.
Although registered Democrats outnumber Republicans in the county by about 2 to 1, county GOP Chairman Bob Glancy vows that a viable Republican candidate will emerge well before the March 6 deadline to file nominating petitions. Onorato, who ousted Republican Jim Roddey in 2003, can expect a fight, Glancy said." |
