DescriptionPledging to "fight for the rights of everyday people, and especially those without a voice," Lori Swanson was sworn in this morning as Minnesota's 29th attorney general — and its first woman to hold that office — during a ceremony in the Capitol Rotunda.

Former Attorney General Mike Hatch, who was Swanson's boss and administered her oath of office, announced that he would continue to work for her.

"I pledge to give every ounce of energy and enthusiasm and ability I have these next four years to serve the people of this great state," Swanson said, "and I promise I will work as hard as any person could work to serve our state well."

In her office, she said, no one will be so powerful that they are above the law or so powerless they are beneath the law's protection.

She pledged to be responsive to the needs of Minnesotans, to provide the best possible legal services and to "at all times endeavor to pursue justice in our work."
