Description | In the aftermath of last month's Democratic election landslide in Washington state and nationwide, yet another Republican might face the threat of being voted out of office.
That would be Diane Tebelius, the state GOP chairwoman only since January. Amid discontent being expressed by some party regulars, she reportedly may have a formidable opponent, state Sen. Luke Esser, when she runs for re-election to a full two-year term next month.
Esser, a Bellevue conservative and the Senate Republican floor leader, lost his 48th District seat last month as Democrats enlarged their majorities in both houses of the Legislature, adding six seats in the Senate and five in the House.
GOP insiders say Esser is working to line up support to oppose Tebelius when the 117-member Republican State Committee -- three from each county -- holds its biennial reorganization meeting Jan. 27. |
