Description | Iowa Gov. Tom Vilsack says he will end the year having raised $1 million for his campaign for president, due largely to a big-ticket fundraiser he hosted Saturday in Des Moines.
"I'm going to raise it one contribution at a time," the Democrat told some of his most devoted backers, promising to compete financially with better-known rivals.
The event at the Temple for Performing Arts marked the halfway point of Vilsack's ceremonial campaign kickoff, which began Thursday in Des Moines, then took him to New Hampshire on Friday and his native Pittsburgh on Saturday before returning to Iowa.
Vilsack leaves office in January when his second term ends. He filed documents to form a campaign organization on Nov. 9, but publicly kicked off the campaign last week. |
