Description | Some high-tech improvements are being made to the voting system in the Alabama House of Representatives, which has been operating with computer software many technicians no longer service.
The upgrades, which cost $94,430, will add features such as touch-screen panels at the desks of the Speaker of the House and House clerk. The House will no longer rely on the Windows 95 operating system, said House Clerk Greg Pappas. The back-up voting system also used the software.
"We're moving into the 21st century," Pappas said. "It was getting kind of scary for us. You'd hate to be out here and all of sudden that entire system crashes and there's nobody that supports it anymore." |
