| Description | OH, THE HUMANITY! A lot of outgoing Republican officeholders will soon have nothing better to do than try to figure out how to repair this entity known as the New Hampshire Republican Party.
Yes, Tuesday's election was indeed a perfect storm in favor of the Democrats. George W. Bush. The Iraq war. GOP scandals. Gov. John Lynch topping the ticket. Even the new structure of the ballot helped.
It was a huge, historic protest vote. The dimensions of this sweep surpassed even what we considered to be bold predictions last Sunday of one Democratic U.S. House seat and a 14-member Democratic majority.
No one, except perhaps the congresswoman-elect herself, expected Carol Shea-Porter to be on her way to Washington next week for freshman orientation.
No one expected the Democrats to pick up nearly 90 seats in the New Hampshire House for a 237-163 majority.
Few expected Executive Councilor Peter Spaulding to be victimized by the wave, especially after it was reported here that Lynch himself had a Spaulding sign on his lawn!
Now, Charlie Bass and Jeb Bradley will be back in the state. The question is, will they become hands-on leaders or focus only on their own future plans?
