DescriptionALBANY -- From making sugar a controlled substance to the universal unionization of New York's work force, third-party candidates in the race for governor are proposing unique ideas in their bids to bring change to the state.

When voters enter the booth on Nov. 7 to choose a new governor, there will be six names on the ballot.

Democrat Eliot Spitzer and Republican John Faso have received the most attention. But there are other choices as well.

"I don't have a platform. I'm standing on the ground," says Green Party candidate Malachy McCourt, 74, who claims to be "the only candidate who has known poverty, degradation, humiliation and shame."
