Description | OTTAWA -- With barely a whisker separating them in the Liberal leadership race, Stéphane Dion and Gerard Kennedy have adopted radically different tactics: Mr. Dion is attacking, while Mr. Kennedy is trying to stay above the fray.
While there are four major contenders left in the race, the two candidates who are essentially tied for third know that the slim gap between them could be the difference between a shot at winning and an early exit from the leadership convention.
Both share the same hope for winning the leadership: that convention delegates eventually decide that Michael Ignatieff and Bob Rae are polarizing figures who will turn off voters.
But while Mr. Dion is trying to highlight his opponents' weaknesses, Mr. Kennedy is hoping delegates will see him as the candidate who can pick up the pieces after his rivals cut each other apart. |
