Description | New Orleans voter turnout for Saturday’s elections and ballot measures appeared higher than expected, according to early indications received by Orleans Parish elections official said Joe Broussard. Concrete results from what was forecast to be a poor turnout won’t be available until after polls close at 8 p.m.
State and local officials said polls opened with few complications, and complaint hotlines logged few calls during the first half of the day, officials said. Val Solino of the Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office had just seven calls by late morning, whereas about 45 complaints had been received by the same point during the mayoral election in the spring.
Most of callers to the district attorney’s office and to a Secretary of State’s Office hotline needed help locating their voting sites, officials said. In New Orleans, confusion was caused by recent changes in the voting location for about 90 precincts.
“All that is just typical election-day stuff in New Orleans,” said Jennifer Marusak, spokeswoman for the Secretary of State’s Office. |
