Description | BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Secretary of state candidate Mike Francis has not reported in his campaign finance reports that he has been using his company's airplane on the campaign trail, though such reporting is required by state law and a judge's ruling in his divorce settlement.
A pilot who has been bankrolling most of his campaign, Francis has been using one of the four planes owned by Francis Drilling Fluids Ltd., a company in which his ex-wife also holds an interest, to fly around the state seeking support for his candidacy.
Francis, one of seven candidates for the secretary of state's office in Saturday's primary election, said he will begin reporting the flights. He released a statement Tuesday saying that he had "viewed the airplane as his personal vehicle" as part of the company's compensation package for his work. |
