Description | Although overshadowed by the California recall election, San Francisco's mayoral candidates have been lining up endorsements from the worlds of politics, entertainment, business, civic involvement and organized labor.
Some endorsements for the Nov. 4 election were made quietly, listed on campaign literature and Web sites. Others, however, were trumpeted in press releases, signaling that the candidates were hoping for a bigger bang.
The endorsements are critical for candidates because they come with a built- in set of constituents and are intended to attract voter interest, money and ground troops who will make phone calls, stuff envelopes and go door-to-door on behalf of their favored candidate.
