Description | Displaying considerable hesitancy, Nebraska Democrats on Saturday nominated Republican defector Kate Witek as their state auditor candidate.
Witek was endorsed by the Democratic state convention on a vote of 171 to 106 after a brief, but frank, debate.
“You have to be a Democrat for at least a week” to merit the party’s nomination, Joe Higgins of Omaha sardonically suggested in opposing the decision.
Witek switched parties earlier in the week, declaring that the GOP is concerned only with winning offices while the Democratic Party appears more open to issues that concern her, such as controlling state government spending and requiring accountable government. |
