| Description | WASHINGTON - South Dakota Sen. John Thune has decided against running for a Republican Party leadership position, saying he wants to spend more time with his daughters and on legislative issues facing his state.
Thune notified Senate Republican leaders late last week that he will not be seeking the chairmanship of the National Republican Senatorial Committee. The two-year post would have required him to travel around the country recruiting Republican candidates to run for the Senate in 2008 and helping them raise campaign funds. |
