Description | Facing an unexpected election runoff, Rep. Cynthia McKinney held a rare news conference Thursday to announce the endorsement of civil rights icon Andrew Young and tout her outspoken work in Congress.
Flanked by clergy, McKinney played an audio recording of Young's endorsement and urged voters not to stay home for the Aug. 8 runoff, where she faces challenger Hank Johnson, a former DeKalb County commissioner. In the July 18 primary, voter turnout in McKinney's district east of Atlanta was extremely low and she led Johnson by less than 2,000 votes.
Because of a third candidate in the primary, McKinney did not receive enough votes to avoid a runoff. |
