DescriptionRobert G. Lorge, Republican challenger to U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl (D-Wis.) in the fall election, is accused in a civil lawsuit in Dane County Circuit Court of sexually molesting a female relative 20 years ago, according to court records posted Friday on the WisPolitics.com Web site.

The lawsuit, filed in December, contends the relative was assaulted in April and May 1986 when she was 3 years old and visiting her grandparents' home in Bear Creek.

In a written response to the lawsuit, Lorge's attorney, Jacob Westerhof, calls the allegations "irresponsible and frivolous" and "the result of vindictiveness." The response also contends the accusations are an attempt to derail Lorge's U.S. Senate candidacy.
