Description | Rep. Lee Terry (R-Neb.) insists he provided a service to his constituents by appearing in a Pfizer television ad that recently aired in his Omaha district.
But the Congressman's critics are calling the pharmaceutical company's commercial a shot in the arm to his re-election campaign, and Common Cause may ask the Federal Election Commission to investigate.
"The Pfizer 'Share Card' program actually started in January of 2002. The commercial was cut and produced in April. It did not start running until eight weeks before the election," said Jamie McKown, communications director for Terry's Democratic opponent, Jim Simon.
"We're not disputing that the Share Card is a good thing for seniors," McKown continued, but "this is a way for the drug company to run an ad that gets him on TV seven weeks before the election without him having to pay for it." |
