DescriptionWARWICK -- It's a little stretch of road that's really more service path than thoroughfare.

Motorists take just a couple of seconds to traverse its 1,500 or so feet.

But for former Gov. Bruce Sundlun, this small strip of pavement holds special meaning: it's the second element of T.F. Green Airport to be named after him.

If it weren't for a little Internet sleuthing by Sundlun, however, no one would know.

Lawmakers named the road for Sundlun in 1999, two years after they placed his name on the airport's main passenger terminal. But identifying signs never went up.

Fast-forward to last December when Sundlun, now 86, bought his first computer. Sundlun, who teaches political science at the University of Rhode Island, had one of his students help him learn how to use it.

They did a search on his name and "stumbled on" a mention of Bruce Sundlun Road, the former Democratic governor said in a letter to state Transportation Director James R. Capaldi.

"I never knew that before today. Therefore, I am writing to you to see if it's true," Sundlun said. "If it is true, can I get some sort of a nameplate on that road so somebody besides you and me will know it's the Bruce Sundlun Road?"
