DescriptionState Treasurer John Kennedy is heeding Gov. Kathleen Blanco’s suggestion that he bears some of the burden for scrutinizing legislators’ pet projects.

Kennedy on Friday sent the governor a list of 201 projects — totaling $9.2 million — that he thinks she should veto.

“If it will help her to blame it on the treasurer, I’m very comfortable with that,” Kennedy said. “She can tell the world that ‘The treasurer made me do it.’ ”

More than $31 million in legislators’ pet projects are in the $26.7 billion state government budget that Blanco must sign by Tuesday.
