Description | A battle for control of Cook County government is heating up following the announcement that the county's chief executive is dropping his re-election bid.
Cook County Board President John Stroger's office released a letter Friday stating the 77-year-old Democrat is withdrawing as a candidate for re-election.
U.S. Rep. Danny Davis publicly announced late Friday that he wants to replace Stroger as the Democratic nominee for board president. Cook County Commissioner Bobbie Steele also has said she wants the seat.
Stroger's son, Chicago Alderman Todd Stroger said last week his father wanted him to replace him on the November ballot against Cook County Commissioner Tony Peraica, a Republican. |
