DescriptionDespite the intense controversy and the deepening investigation swirling around him, Congressman Bill Jefferson (D-New Orleans) has vowed to not only stay in office, but also to run for re-election this November. Interestingly, Democratic Party leaders in Congress have called for an ethics investigation into Jefferson and one Capitol Hill insider reports that the Democrats want Jefferson to step aside quickly. The longer the Jefferson scandal stays in the news, the harder it becomes for the Democrats to paint the Republicans as the party of corruption in the mid-term elections. Even though the Democrats want Jefferson to resign quickly, the Congressman seems to prefer a strategy of fighting the charges and taking his chances with not only the court, but also the voters.
