DescriptionIt’s time for leadership, not political gamesmanship
By OSCAR LOVELACE
Guest columnist
I believe leadership is about setting an agenda and then working with others to achieve it. It is not about gimmicks; it is about goals.

Leadership is about listening, understanding and then working with others to bring about a desired result. My leadership experience and my leadership style are different from Mark Sanford’s. That really shouldn’t come as a surprise, because my vision for South Carolina is also very different.

I see a South Carolina that respects the greatness of its people, its culture and natural heritage, a state with a vibrant economy and quality jobs for all our citizens. I see a South Carolina that embraces the closeness of community while connecting to the world through technology and innovation. I see a place with a public education system that delivers knowledge and access to all of our citizens, no matter where they live. I see a place where every citizen can live a healthy, fulfilling life without the fear of unaffordable health care.

In my campaign for the Republican nomination for governor, I have repeatedly challenged Mark Sanford to debate these ideas. Voters deserve the opportunity to compare candidates for the state’s highest office, to examine where they differ on issues. Gov. Sanford felt that way himself four years ago, but not now.
