Description | BATON ROUGE -- After six years of study that began while he was in the Governor's Mansion, former Gov. Mike Foster is expected to graduate from Southern University's law school this weekend.
Foster, 75, began attending law school part-time while he was governor but at the time said he didn't expect to graduate. Now, Foster said, assuming he's passed all his final exams, he will add a law degree to the chemical engineering degree he earned from LSU in 1951.
At least for now, Foster does not plan to take the bar exam, which would allow him to practice law.
"I don't have a real need to practice," Foster said. "It's sort of like law school -- if I do it, it will be because it's there."
