FAYETTEVILLE - Attorney General Mike Beebe's gubernatorial campaign raised $420,234 in March, pushing the Democratic candidate's fundraising past the record that Gov. Mike Huckabee set four years ago, campaign finance records filed Monday show.
With seven months remaining until the November general election, Beebe's campaign reported an overall fundraising total of $3.17 million through March, compared to the $2.73 million that Huckabee raised throughout his 2002 re-election campaign.
Beebe's Republican opponent, Asa Hutchinson, has raised about $1.5 million, including $241,032 in March, his campaign reported Monday. Both Huckabee and Republican National Committee chairman Ken Mehlman hosted fundraisers for Hutchinson during the month.
"(Beebe) is honored by the record-setting support he's received for his agenda for more and better jobs, affordable and accessible health care, and nothing but the best in Arkansas schools for our children," spokesman Zac Wright said.
Hutchinson campaign spokesman David Kinkade said Beebe's abundance of cash was no surprise. |
