Description | Citing a decline in enrollment and a shortfall in revenue, Loyola University is planning to cut several programs beginning with the upcoming fall session.
Particularly hard hit would be the broadcast journalism, computer science and elementary education areas. Some tenured and tenure-tracked professors would be included in a 17-person workforce reduction.
According to Loyola officials, the move will help overcome a projected $9 million shortfall for the upcoming operating budget.
The Loyola community has until April 19 to comment on the proposed changes; the plan will be presented to the Board of Trustees for approval on May 19.
Among the programs on the chopping block are programs that provide: Bachelor of Arts in Communications, including broadcast journalism and film studies; Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Computer Information systems and Elementary Education; Masters in Communications, Computer Information Science, Elementary Education, Reading and Secondary Education
