An excerpt...
"The U.S. Senate on Tuesday confirmed President Bush's nomination of a New Jersey lawyer to the Philadelphia-based 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Michael Chagares replaces Michael Chertoff, who left the court in 2005 to become the head of the Homeland Security department.

In a telephone interview from his Hackensack, N.J., law office, Chagares said he watched the Senate confirm his nomination by a vote of 98-0 by tuning to C-SPAN. The whole process took about 20 minutes, he said.

"I am profoundly honored to be confirmed, and very excited," Chagares added.

Also excited are the new judge's four children, all under the age of 10.

"Their questions have ranged from, 'Do you have to wear a white wig?' to 'Do you get to be on TV like Judge Judy?'" said Chagares, 43.

Bush nominated Chagares on Jan. 26. His nomination was supported by Sen. Frank Lautenberg, D-N.J., and former Sen. Jon Corzine, D-N.J., as part of a compromise reached with the White House over the nomination of Peter Sheridan to the U.S. District Court in New Jersey.

Lautenberg and Corzine had placed a hold on Sheridan's nomination in 2003 - Bush initially wanted the lawyer and Republican party loyalist to sit in Camden but the senators argued that job should go instead to someone from southern New Jersey."
