| Description | Midlands prosecutor Barney Giese says he will run for re-election as a Democrat and leave the Republican Party.
Unlike most South Carolina politicians who are moving to the GOP, Giese says ties with his father's party were torn beyond repair when he supported longtime friend Joel Lourie in a 2004 state Senate race. Lourie is a Democrat.
