Description | One of Darlington County’s state lawmakers is retiring from office at the end of this year.
State Rep. Jesse Hines, D-Lamar, said he will not seek re-election after 13 years in office. Hines currently serves in the District 62 House seat.
A retired educator and a member of the House Education and Public Works Committee for all but two of his years in the House, Hines, 72, said he is stepping down to spend more time with his family. “After 30 years as a teacher and school administrator, town council, the school board and 13 years in the House, it’s time,” he said Monday.
“I’m in good health. I like to till the soil, I enjoy gardening. I have two grandchildren in Dallas, Texas, and one in Orangeburg. I want to spend more time with them, with my children and grandchildren,” he said |
