Description | The oldest and one of the longest-serving members of the Legislature saw her tenure end Tuesday with the win going to a candidate who ran after the incumbent signaled she would retire.
With 99 percent of 169 precincts counted, Suzanne Simpson had 55 percent, to 44 percent for Sen. Adeline Geo-Karis. The 87-year-old Zion Republican faced a heated battle to keep her more than 30-year legislative run going.
Geo-Karis did not immediately return a call Tuesday night seeking comment. A spokeswoman for Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson praised her service and said Simpson would be a good candidate in the November election. |
