DescriptionThe King County Council on Monday slapped down County Executive Ron Sims' plan to move his office to a new county building next year.

Sims said the new building was the cheapest of all the possible locations for his office in the downtown Seattle neighborhood of the King County Courthouse.

The council instead directed Sims to move into the county Administration Building next year, but only as a temporary stop on his way back to the recently remodeled courthouse. Capital Budget Committee Chairman Bob Ferguson, D-Seattle, said the county courthouse is "the people's building," and the executive should join the council there.

The future location of Sims' office has become one of the most contentious issues to split Sims and some of his staunchest Democratic allies since his party regained control of the council in 2001.
