Description | None of the five candidates seeking to become the new mayor of Vermont's largest city won a majority of votes in the first round, forcing an instant runoff under the city's new election system.
Progressive Bob Kiss won the most votes in the first count, with Democrat Hinda Miller in second, Republican Kevin Curley in third and then two independents in fourth and fifth.
Voters were given the opportunity to cast a ballot for their top choice, but also had the option of marking their second-, third-, and fourth-place choices as well.
The second-place choices now will be counted for the two independents.
If none of the other four candidates gets a majority on the second round, candidates will continue to be eliminated and their votes reallocated until a winner can be declared. |
