DescriptionA communication glitch between town and county elections offices nearly cost two Port Royal Town Council candidates their shot at making the April ballot.
Scott Hammet and Maurice Allen, candidates for the seat left vacant by the January death of Yvonne Butler, were told they could file their petitions to run for the council at the Beaufort County Voter Registration and Elections office. State law, however, requires candidates to file in the municipality where they are running, in this case, with the Port Royal Municipal Election Commission.

Representatives of both offices met in an emergency meeting Monday to hash out the problem, which was brought to their attention by a local resident. They decided to allow Allen and Hammet onto the April 11 ballot, since the mistake was the commissions' faults.
