DescriptionCherokee County Sheriff Bill Blanton plans to seek re-election as a Republican this year, he said Friday.
"My conservative values are more at home with the Republican Party led by President Bush and Gov. Sanford," Blanton said.

Blanton is the fourth sheriff to switch to the Republican Party in the last two years, the party said.

Saluda County Sheriff Jason Booth, Georgetown County Sheriff lane Cribb and Laurens County Sheriff Ricky Chastain all switched in 2004.
