Description | The son of a top leader at the Arizona Legislature was arrested Jan. 23 on allegations that he and two others assaulted middle school children in what investigators described as a hazing incident at a student council camp, police said.
Clifton Roy Bennett, the 18-year-old son of Senate President Ken Bennett of Prescott, and 19-year-old Kyle Wheeler were each booked on 18 counts of aggravated assault and 18 counts of kidnapping. Both were counselors at the camp, police said.
Charges were expected against a third suspect, who is a juvenile, said Lt. Pete Hodap, a spokesman for the Prescott Police Department.
In all, 18 middle students who came from across Arizona to attend the camp in June were held down and assaulted. No injuries were reported, Mr. Hodap said. |
