DescriptionAttorney General Jim Petro today introduced state Sen. Joy Padgett, of Coshocton, as his Republican running mate for governor during a Statehouse news conference.
Padgett becomes the first female to join a gubernatorial ticket in the 2006 statewide elections. She was elected to the Senate in the 2004 general election after a bitter campaign against Democrat Terry Anderson.

"Joy Padgett is experienced and well respected in both houses and on both sides of the aisle," Petro said. "I can think of no better person to be my right hand in moving our agenda through the General Assembly."

Padgett, 58, served in the Ohio House from 1993-99 and was director of the Ohio Office of Appalachia from 1999 to 2004. She taught high school for 20 years, mostly English and journalism, and she and her husband, Don, have owned an office-supply business in Coshocton for 28 years.

"I am honored and excited to be Jim's running mate," said Padgett. "Jim Petro is the only candidate to offer big ideas for reform with a record of results behind his plans."
