Description | Republicans in the state Senate are within reach of tossing out the election results of new state Sen. Ophelia Ford, who may have been propelled into office with the help of felons and voters using the names of the deceased.
The Senate would need a majority vote — 17 of its 33 members — to void the election, Attorney General Paul Summers' office said in an opinion released yesterday. That's also the number of Republicans in the Senate. Some senators had thought a two-thirds vote would be required. |
