Description | Former Democratic state lawmaker Gabrielle Giffords is getting plenty of financial backing and high-profile help in her bid for an Arizona congressional seat.
Giffords, a moderate Democrat, is looking to fill the Tucson congressional seat being vacated by retiring Republican Jim Kolbe.
Giffords has raised more than $250,000 since launching her U.S. House bid in December. That is a very impressive number and Giffords hopes that will help draw more support and national resources to her Arizona effort.
"Our big push was to show we are viable," said Giffords.
The race to fill Kolbe's seat has become one of the most competitive in the country and could be a key contest to which party controls the U.S. House after the 2006 elections. |
