| Description | Fresno Mayor Alan Autry endorsed U.S. Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) today, becoming the first mayor in California to publicly endorse Senator Feinstein for reelection to the United States Senate.
"Once in a great while a leader comes along and is able to transcend a label - Democrat and Republican - and rise up to gain the respect of both," Mayor Autry said. "In a political world dominated by anger and partisan poison on both sides, Senator Feinstein has taken her place as one of the very gifted, very special, and unfortunately very rare public servants."
"This kind of respect isn't simply given, it is earned - and that is especially true in the rough and tumble world of politics. How has she done this? She figured out a long time ago that the key is to do your best to determine the right thing to do - not the politically prudent thing - but the right thing, then simply do it, regardless of the cost or consequences."
"There is no doubt that Senator Feinstein is a staunch Democrat, as I am a staunch Republican, and we will not always agree on everything," Mayor Autry said. "But because we are Americans first and party loyalists second, we will naturally find that we are often marching on the same ground together. So today, I am pleased and honored to welcome Senator Feinstein to Fresno and give her my personal endorsement and support for her reelection to the United States Senate." |
