Description | However, the party is supporting an effort to have Alexi Giannoulias removed as Democratic candidate for state treasurer.
Tuesday was the deadline to file objections with the State Board of Elections to challenge candidates for the March primary ballot. Prior to the deadline, there was widespread speculation that House Speaker Michael Madigan, D-Chicago, who is chairman of the Illinois Democratic Party, would try to have Eisendrath's name removed, which would have given Gov. Rod Blagojevich an open shot at the nomination. The objection was never filed.
"The petitions were reviewed, and there were a number of defective signatures," said Madigan spokesman Steve Brown. "But it looks like they filed just over the minimum. There was no point in filing objections." |
