Description | Cook County sheriff candidate Tom Dart hopes the endorsement of a popular senator will propel him into the county's top law enforcement seat.
His campaign for Cook County sheriff could become easier with the endorsement Wednesday of Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.), considered a rising star sure to boost votes for any candidate he backs, said Dart spokesman Mike Cosgrove.
Obama, preparing for a 10-day trip to the Middle East, was not available for comment Wednesday. However, in a statement released by Dart's office, Obama said Dart's record in Springfield led him to back the former state representative and Cook County prosecutor as the candidate to replace retiring Sheriff Michael Sheahan. |
