Description | Liberal star candidate Marc Garneau, the first Canadian in space, has apologized to a Quebec paraplegic association for comments he made in a speech 20 years ago.
Garneau had said during a 1986 symposium on education that government grants to handicapped people weren't profitable.
"The comments I made in 1986 are unfortunate," Garneau said to the Quebec Paraplegic Association this week.
"I wanted to emphasize the importance of financing the sciences and technologies. I recognize that I shouldn't have done that at the detriment of handicapped people and other minorities." |
