Description | RALEIGH, N.C. - Gov. Mike Easley raised $700,000 during the first half of the year, his re-election campaign said, giving him $1 million in his campaign chest.
Easley, a Democrat seeking a second four-year term in 2004, has more in his coffers than several Republicans seeking to challenge him.
"We met our goal to get over a million in the bank," said Mac McCorkle, a political consultant for Easley. "We thought that was a good way of gearing up. Now that he is not pinned down by the budget and the Legislature, we will start kicking into full gear." |
