DescriptionPhiladelphia Daily News article.

An excerpt...
"Harrisburg is abuzz with rumors that two more candidates are considering getting into the race for lieutenant governor.

The possible contenders against incumbent Catherine Baker Knoll? Former state Treasurer Barbara Hafer and Joe Hoeffel, the ex-congressman who last year tried to unseat Arlen Specter.

"I'm thinking about it, which is about all I can say," said Hoeffel from his Philadelphia law office. "I'm talking to some friends and thinking about the possibilities."

Hafer did not return calls for comment.

A candidate already has declared in the race against Knoll - Valerie McDonald Roberts, the recorder of deeds for Allegheny County.

Does this flurry of interest suggest that Knoll, 75, could be taken down?

Knoll's malaprops have fueled speculation that she could be vulnerable. She has referred to Gov. Rendell as Edward G. Robinson. This summer she attended the funeral of a Marine killed in Iraq and made anti-war comments and handed out business cards. And a month ago she made headlines for allowing a parrot to sing in the Senate chamber."
