Description | One day after the Cook County Democratic Party selected Tom Dart as its choice to replace retiring Sheriff Michael Sheahan, a group of Black elected officials unanimously their support behind law enforcement veteran Sylvester Baker.
At a sometimes raucous meeting Tuesday night at Captain's Hard Times Dining, 436 E. 79th St., more than a dozen elected officials, along with nearly 100 community activists and businessmen, heard from three candidates vying for the endorsement of the Black Elected Officials of Cook County.
The meeting of the dormant organization was called at the behest of Rep. Bobby Rush (D-1st), who has been outraged at what he describes as an effort by the county's Democratic Party to force their choice for sheriff - an avowed foe of Rush - since Sheahan's surprising retirement last week. |
