Description | Bennington Banner article.
An excerpt...
"Sen. Mark Shepard, R-Bennington, is now considering a campaign to replace Bernie Sanders in the U.S. House of Representatives, a wide-open race which political observers believe might be the GOP's best opportunity to capture the seat in years.
Just a few weeks ago, Shepard was thinking about a race for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Sen. James Jeffords, a Republican turned Independent.
But a couple of strong, well-financed candidates - Rep. Sanders and Burlington-area businessman Richard Tarrant, a Republican - have already entered the Senate race.
A campaign for the state's only seat in the U.S. House could be less difficult for Shepard, despite the appearance of early front-runners in both parties, Shepard said.
"From the beginning I've consider both races," Shepard said during an interview on Friday. "I can accomplish many of the same things and promote the same issues in either one."
Shepard previously said that he would campaign for the Senate if Lt. Gov. Brian Dubie chose not to enter the race. When Dubie announced in October that he would run for re-election, however, Shepard remained undecided." |
