The heads of the largest state employees union are lashing out at 10 Democratic lawmakers for urging Dane County Executive Kathleen Falk to mount a Democratic primary challenge to Attorney General Peg Lautenschlager next year.
In a blistering letter released Thursday, Wisconsin State Employees Union Executive Director Marty Beil and President Robert McLinn said the lawmakers are more concerned about public opinion polls than defending "the state's most courageous Democratic elected official.
"Spooked by meaningless poll numbers, you are trying to toss overboard the most clear-cut example of what it should mean to be a Democrat so you can chart your meandering course, triangulating every tough issue, transfixed by the same sorry pollsters and slick consultants that long ago convinced you to trade your spine for spin," the union leaders wrote.
In a swipe at Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle, the union leaders asked the lawmakers, "If you are so terrified by polls, why aren't you calling for someone to take on the top of the ticket, which today seems like anything but a sure thing for Democrats? |
