Description | Soaring oil revenues have helped Newfoundland and Labrador project a small surplus for the current budget year, less than two years after the province posted the highest annual deficit in its history.
Finance Minister Loyola Sullivan says the provincial government is now expecting to end the 2005-2006 year with a $1.5-million surplus.
While the deficit has been conquered, Sullivan said the province has hardly solved all its financial problems.
"We have a staggering debt level, and government must ensure our expenditure levels are kept within our means." |
