DescriptionLongtime South Side activist Mike Wiles said he's seeking a seat on the Columbus Board of Education in the Nov. 8 election to bring the perspective of a "working-class individual" to decision making.

"I was one of the at-risk kids that we seem to be focused on...back when the term wasn't 'at-risk,'" said Wiles.

A Columbus native, Wiles said his family often moved when he was a child. As a result, he said, he attended about six different elementary schools.

He dropped out of South High School in 1972 but earned a graduate-equivalence degree in 1977 after a four-year stint in the U.S. Navy. Wiles helped form the booster club at South High in the mid-1990s.
