Description"In the last few months, the quirky Bergen County-based district -- which could hold the key to Assembly and Senate control -- has witnessed considerable political upheaval. With one incumbent running for the Senate and the other seeking another term as the Green Party candidate, there
was much speculation and jockeying earlier this year as the parties each looked for two new candidates.

Ultimately, the Republicans decided on former Fair Lawn Mayor Edward J. Trawinski and Bergen County Freeholder Louis A. Tedesco, Jr., while the Democrats tapped former Fair Lawn Mayor Robert M. Gordon and Edgewater Mayor Bryan Christiansen. Assemblyman Matthew J. Ahearn (G-Fair Lawn), who left the Democrats when it became clear he had lost the support of party leaders, was the Green Party's choice.

In a move that seemed timed to create as little noise as possible, Edgewater Mayor Bryan Christiansen issued a press release late Friday afternoon announcing that he was withdrawing from the race.

By the time the weekend was over, Democratic leaders had circled their wagons around a new candidate, introducing Fort Lee Councilwoman Joan Voss as their pick to replace Christiansen at a press conference at party headquarters in Hackensack this afternoon."
